Vasectomy reversal is a well known term which is used to describe a complex surgical procedure known as vasovasostomy; which is the most advanced form of microsurgery. It was firstly performed by Earl Owen in 1971. In this surgery, a surgeon reconnects the sperm canal or deferens by performing a vas-to-vas connection. Since during vasectomy vas deferens or tube is cut and main aim of vasectomy Reversal (vasovasostomy) is to reconnect the tubes or vas deferens so that one can again produce enough sperms to be able to father a child.
Vasectomy reversal surgery can be done in one of two ways: Vasovasostomy (VV) and Vasoepididymostomy (VE). Vasovasostomy (VV) is a simple procedure in which a surgeon or urologist just sews the two ends of the vas deferens or tubes back together which were earlier cut during vasectomy. This is done to restore flow of sperms and bring back the power of fertility.
The other way is known as Vasoepididymostomy (VE). It is considered to be more complex and challenging as compared to Vasovasostomy. In this surgery the surgeon attaches the vas deferens or tubes directly to the Epididymis as in the earlier attempt of improving the sperm flow by performing vasovasostomy do not bring the desired results. So, this surgery is performed only on those patients who do not get any help from simple vasovasostomy procedure and sperm flow is totally blocked. Cost of such surgeries varies much and depends on the procedure used by doctor, quality of service provided and state from where you are getting treatment. But, a vasectomy reversal procedure is not covered under most of medical insurance.
Take care that the doctor is well qualified and had got good success rate. The net cost of Vasectomy reversal surgery is very less as compared to its alternatives methods like invitro fertilization (IVF). A single cycle of IVF cost $ 8000 to $ 20000. In contrary to this vasectomy reversal, surgery just cost around $ 10,000 to $20,000 only.
